Courses taught: Building Materials, Advanced Building Materials and Numerical Analysis of Building Materials and Construction method.   • Visiting Associate Professor at University of British Columbia at Okanagan (UBCO) from June till August 2010 at Faculty of Engineering. Project to develop a road performance index using a Bayesian Belief network mode was accomplished.

  • Associate Professor, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Structures and Materials Dept., UTM, Malaysia [April 2006 till June 2010]. Courses taught: Concrete Technology, Civil Engineering Materials for undergraduate students and Advanced Concrete Technology for Master students, and Concrete Laboratory. Research projects include Corrosion; Polymer Modified Concrete, Palm Oil Fiber in Concrete and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT).

  • Research Associate, Dept. of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Univ. of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada [Jan. 2006 to March 2006]. Project funded by Cement Association of Canada to create a database for High Performance Concrete (HPC) used in bridges all over Canada was accomplished. The project aimed at establishing an easy tool to get the necessary information about HPC for research and industry.

  • Post-Doctoral Fellow, Elasto-dynamics laboratory, Graduate School of Science and Technology, Kumamoto University, Kumamoto, Japan. [Nov. 2003 to December 2005]. A research project to study the corrosion of steel reinforcement in concrete by means of Non- Destructive Testing (NDT) such as linear polarization, Tafel plot, AC Impedance Spectroscopy, Acoustic Emission (AE), Mini-Sensors, and Boundary Element Method (BEM) was accomplished.

    -   Research Associate, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada [October 2001 through April 2003]. A project to study the effectiveness of repair methods for bridge decks in Alberta was accomplished. It was a joint project between University of Alberta and Earth Tech. Canada for Alberta Transportation.

  • Research Scholar, Division of Construction Technology and Construction Management, School of Civil and Structural Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. [September 1997 through September 2001].

  • Teaching Assistant, Faculty of Engineering, Alexandria University, Alexandria, Egypt. [1993 to May 1995]. Course taught: Testing and Properties of Materials.

     

    Industry:

    -   Senior Structural Engineer at Amec Americas in Calgary from Jan. 2012 to Nov. 2013. I was involved in two projects:

    Kearl Project (IORVL): The scope includes the design of Steam Turbine generator foundation (STG). The design involves dynamic and static analysis for massive steam turbine. Other assignments include miscellaneous foundations around this STG; preparation of MTO’s and reviews of shop drawings.

    BDR project (Sunshine Oil sands): Design pipe racks, tank foundations and miscellaneous structures for a SAGD Project.

  • Project Engineer, EBA Engineering Consultants ltd., Canada, [May 2003 through October 2003]. Tasks were mix design, concrete testing in laboratory and onsite inspection, writing professional reports about concrete problems like sideways and house parking. Many assessments of concrete for private houses in Edmonton and surrounded areas were done. Another task of running tests on floor leveling in Yellowknife and also few tests on pavement in Edmonton areas was accomplished.

  • Civil/ Site Engineer and Designer, Shore Protection Authority (S.P.A.), Alexandria, Egypt. [1994 through August 1997].

  • Quality Control Engineer, El-Nemr Contractors (NC), Cairo, Egypt. [1991 to 1993].
