On the afternoon of January 4th, 2018, Prof. Zhao Xinshun, Secretary of Party General Branch and Dean of the college, gave a special report on the training program of Miami Institute for teachers and students. More than 300 teachers and students attended the symposium, chaired by Wang Chuangfeng, deputy secretary of the Party General Branch.
Dean Zhao comprehensively expounded the development situation and future plan of the college from four aspects: Sino-foreign cooperative education and its policies，school model，orientation, and training programs. And he also answered more than a dozen questions in detail that students were concerned about. He pointed out that as the first high level of undergraduate-level Sino-foreign cooperative education institution in university in Henan Province, Miami College was to learn the teaching, management and personnel training mode from the world-class universities and introduce more high-quality education resources from foreign countries to provide students with advanced engineering education aiming at cultivating international advanced engineering and technical personnel with global awareness and vision. As a substantial college of Henan University, Miami College will recruit outstanding talents globally according to the standards of teachers at the University of Miami, forming its own independent teaching staff, and interact with teachers in the main institutes of the university to ensure teaching quality with the highest quality teachers. The orientation of the school is “high-end atmospheric grade”, which means high starting point, high-end atmospheric teaching space and experimental facilities, and high-grade personnel training. For this purpose, the college will increase investment in teaching facilities and respect scholars and academics, creating a first-class teaching environment and academic atmosphere. The current training program, based on the professional training program of University of Miami, also took into account the requirements certified by domestic professionals, which were formulated by the experts after many arguments. This dual-system training program had its own advantages but, meanwhile, also brought some certain difficulties in terms of students' learning. He hoped that students can correct their attitudes and face up to difficulties, summon up the spirit “Liangjian” (defying spirit)to forge ahead, devote themselves to professional studies, and endeavor to success as early as possible, thus winning glory for the Miami College and Henan University. The well-ordered report lasted for more than an hour and Zhao's humorous speech won a lot of applause from the students.
